The idea of creating a National Park in Riding Mountain came from D. D. McDonald and J. N. McFadden, both citizens of Dauphin in 1927. Mr. McDonald was a Mayor of Dauphin and Mr. McFadden, a barrister, had a wide interest in local organizations
In 1933, Riding Mountain National Park was established, which included Clear Lake and the surrounding area. The park was created to preserve the natural beauty of the area and provide recreational opportunities for Canadians.
Clear Lake has been designated a Manitoba Heritage River, and its natural beauty and cultural significance continue to attract visitors from around the world.
